NYG In a Nutshell:
Not Youth Group is the High School Ministry of Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley.
So why is it called “NOT YOUTH GROUP"?
We believe many of today’s youth groups share many similarities. A typical meeting may include students meeting as a group, both young women and men, to listen to a Bible study. Youth leaders prepare events and activities with the hope that students will be engaged and stimulated. At Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley, we believe in following a different model for youth ministry. It’s important to understand that just because we believe in doing things differently; it does not mean the traditional model for youth group is wrong – it’s just different.
Our youth ministry is designed around the vision of building up youth to “follow righteousness, faith, love, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22).
We believe that to follow this vision means to do things differently. Young women and men meet separately for Bible study. We use discipleship books for lessons to encourage teens to grow into a deeper knowledge and understanding of God in preparation for the future. Through discipleship training, they will learn what it means to have a Biblical worldview. The young women and men are encouraged to actively participate in the planning of youth events and activities.
As a result, much of our ministry is similar to the ministries that students will be joining once they graduate from High School. We want to come alongside parents and support them in getting teens ready to be godly men and women. And of course, there will be a lot of fun things to do as well!
Why do you meet separately?
For one, this helps to minimize the distractions, but more importantly, we recognize that men and women are most effectively ministered to in different ways. As Paul advised Titus (Titus 2:7 – “In everything set them an example by doing what is good…”), we believe that the older men and women in the congregation are examples to the younger – older men are role models to younger men, and older women to younger women. We seek to reserve that weekly meeting time for learning about what God’s Word says to them individually, without the pressures that naturally occur when young men and women try to impress each other.
So what do you DO at NYG?
Before students get into their small groups, we all meet as a group to get to know one another, discuss ministry opportunities, upcoming events and hang out for a bit. Then we break into a small group format where we work through, one in a series of three books, “Making Disciples”. Students learn what it is to be a disciple of Jesus and how to apply the truths in scripture to their daily lives. We trust that through the continual transforming work of the Holy Spirit, they will continue to grow in godliness and live exciting, dynamic lives for Christ.
We also meet on a quarterly basis as a whole group to fellowship and have fun. Students will have opportunities to attend week long camps, mission trips or get together with youth from other Calvary Chapel Youth Ministries for special events. A Youth Ministry Calendar will be provided the beginning of the year that lists upcoming events.
Finally, we want to encourage students to be involved in ministry. As God has given each and every believer a spiritual gift(s), we want to instill a heart of service in our students, which not only builds godly character but is a direct command from Scripture (Galatians 5:13). NYG members are involved in serving not just on mission trips once a year, but regularly within their home church, from serving in the Children’s, Servant’s, Prayer, Worship and Audio/Visual Ministries.

Senior High School Ministry - Sunday Morning’s
On Sunday morning’s, Senior High student’s meet in the High School room during 2nd Service only. The Sunday morning class is co-ed and the teaching style is similar to that which they will experience in an adult service. This helps to prepare students for the transition from the eventual transition to the adult service.
